Offering STOP THE BLEED® Training & Kits to Equip Colorado Public Schools

Promoting Safer Schools in Colorado

On behalf of the Colorado Trauma Network (CTN) and the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS COT), we are very excited to notify you of the passage of HB23-1213 titled “STOP THE BLEED® School Training and Kits” sponsored by Representative Mary Young, Representative Mary Bradfield, and Senator Kyle Mullica. It is a bi-partisan supported bill that was signed into Colorado State law on May 15, 2023, and appropriates funding for the purpose of purchasing and distributing bleeding control kits to public schools. STOP THE BLEED® (STB) is a training program to combat the public health issue of preventable death caused by bleeding and it empowers non-medically trained people to act to save a life. Public schools which choose to participate in a STOP THE BLEED® training after the start of the 2023-2024 fiscal year, which began on July 1, 2023, are eligible to request a limited number of bleeding control kits for their school based upon their school enrollment volume.

Colorado public schools wishing to participate to begin by completing the STB Data Tracking Form. Each school will need to know their School Code to complete the data form which is their unique school identifier; click here for the list of Department of Education Public Schools.
